OHMS, Buralicious Undertow, The Sneaky Creekans and Robotgod
@The Catalyst/ Santa Cruz, CA

    Robotgod opened the show with a good set. Their female singer/bassist did a good job fronting the band and keeping the crowds energy up. The band even had a smoke machine going during their set, which was pretty cool. The song which sticks out the most in my mind was “Kill Yourself”, where they got pretty much the whole crowd to sing along. They ended their set with random noise, reminding me of how Nirvana used to end their shows, accept they didn’t trash their shit! It was pretty cool, Nate from the Creekans even hopped up there and joined in the drum-pounding.

    The Sneaky Creekans were up next, drawing by far the largest crowd of the night. It seemed like every one was having a good time, accept I almost got my ass beat in by some drunk jerks who were fighting while I was trying to take pictures. This group of guys towards the right of the stage were just punching and slamming each other into tables and chairs, one guy got knocked to the floor and looked like a rag doll. That’s when I scooted my booty to the other side of the stage for safer photo taking. The boys in the band put on their usual high energy set, with some of my favorites like “20” and “Soccer ‘99”. They didn’t have much time to play, but they pulled off a pretty darn good set, accompanied by lots of dancing in the audience.

    The Burlacticus Undertow came on next. They all had funky outfits on, but I think they stole the Creekan’s idea of having stage dancers! They had a female stage dancer who was wearing a pretty tiny black dress. It kept the guys in the audience entertained. For me personally, I didn’t get into their set, their songs all sounded the same to me… Enough Said.

    By the time OHMS got around to playing, it was about 12:15am, and there were only about 30 people left in the venue. So much for their CD Release Party! They were a pretty decent hard-influenced band with a female singer (on the occasion of vocals). I left about half way through their set, and there were only 10 people left in the crowd. Pretty sad. Maybe The Catalyst will realize that 4 bands starting at 9pm on a Thursday night is not such a great idea.
