Sneaky Creekans - Opening for The Skatalites
The Sneaky Creekans scored the opening act when Skanic cancelled at the last minute.
They continue to amaze me with their stage energy. This 7-piece outfit (+2 dancers) is
from Boulder Creek, CA. They’ve been around for a couple years, although this year
it seems they’ve been able to open for some big acts and gain some respect from the
scene. They warmed the crowd up nicely with their set, which ranged from frenzied, quick
beats to slower more melodic songs. My favorite pieces by them live are “Fire it Up” and “9021 oh shit”.
The Skatalites played a breathtaking set. They started off with a countdown
to freedom from 10, and they also ended the set the same way. There was a wonderful crowd,
friendly people, just dancing the night away. They played their old stuff with a female singer, as
well as their newer stuff too. They blow my mind, I love traditional ska, and especially the atmosphere
at those types of shows. If you’re into the traditional sounds, then be sure to check these guys out.
